What's Your Pranic Footprint

It seems we can't go anywhere any more without being asked, "What's your carbon footprint." It is a buzz word. And that's a good thing. Being mindful of the impact we have on the environment in the course of our day-to-day lives is critical in doing what we can as individuals to help the entire planet. Mindfulness of our environment and our interconnectedness is key to living our yoga.

We receive plenty of reminders of ways we can leave behind a lighter carbon footprint--recycle, drive a more fuel-efficient car, walk, bike, or take a bus, hang your clothes out to dry. But what about the footprint we leave behind? That is, what kind of pranicenergy are we emitting?

Ever noticed when you walk into a room with another person and the atmosphere is light, peaceful, soothing--an energy you want to absorb? You've probably also felt the impact of someone who has just left behind a "gianormous" pranic footprint. It feels as though the air has been sucked dry, draining the energy of the room itself. Or maybe you've walked into an empty room, and it just felt ugly. In Sanskrit this is know as "dukha," or "bad space." This may well be a residual effect of someone else's leaden energy.

So, next time you have a feeling your own energy may be "contaminating," make a lighter choice. For yourself, and those around you. The quality of our lives is determined by the quality of our energy. Isn't that reason enough to leave "cleaner energy" behind? (And if you feel like you might not pass your pranic "smog check," drop in for a yoga class!)

Maybe this is what lyricist Dorothy Fields had in mind with the lyrics, "Gold dust on my feet, on the sunny side of the street?"
