CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

At Yoga Community, we are proud of our diverse teaching faculty and range of classes.  We encourage you to try as many classes as fit into your schedule, and please choose a class level that matches your experience.  If you have any questions about which class is appropriate for you, call us or send us an email for a free consultation with a Yoga Advisor.

Anusara Inspired
Anusara means “flowing with Grace,” “flowing with Nature,” “following your heart.” Founded by John Friend in 1997, Anusara yoga is a school of hatha yoga, which unifies a life-affirming Shiva-Shakti Tantric philosophy of intrinsic goodness with Universal Principles of Alignment.

Ashtanga / Ashtanga Blend
Ashtanga yoga involves synchronizing the breath with movement, creating a dynamic flow. Its progressive series of postures produces a deep internal heat and a purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs.

Beginning Yoga and Yoga basics
The basics and foundations of yoga for those brand new to yoga and those wishing to refresh their “Beginner’s Mind.” A perfect place to start if you don’t know a thing. When you step into your first Level 1 class, you’ll feel absolutely at ease!

Community Yoga
Enjoy a wonderful, multi level yoga class at a reduced rate.  Our way of giving back to the community that gives so much to us.

Chair Yoga
Chair Yoga is an excellent choice for those overcoming illness or injury or those who have difficulty getting up from and down to the floor.  Quite a bit of yoga can be done sitting in a chair or by using the back of the chair for balance.

Five Dollar ($5) Friday!
Enjoy a wonderful, multi level yoga class at a deeply reduced rate.  A fun way to start the weekend.

Fluid Yoga
Fluid yoga is an uninterrupted practice set to music that combines mindful transitions between postures and coordination of breath with movement, which elicits a quieting of the mind and a relaxation response in the nervous system.  Participants gauge their responses and make adjustments through verbal cues and awareness of body, breath and thought patterns.

Forrest Yoga
Forrest Yoga helps you connect to your core - getting strong and centered. It uses heat, deep breathing and vigorous sequences to sweat out toxins. The long holds in the pose progressions help you flush, oxygenate and rejuvenate every cell.

Gentle Raja Yoga & Gentle Yoga & Yoga Nidra
Enjoy a slow-paced class that will leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed.  Gentle Yoga classes are appropriate for those who are dealing with illness, injury, an aging body or just a low energy day.  Appropriate for beginners as well.

Hatha / Hatha Flow
Hatha yoga is the most commonly practiced branch of yoga in America, and it is a highly developed system of nearly 200 physical postures, movements and breathing techniques designed to tune the body to its optimal health.   A “flow” class simply means that postures are strung together without much interruption or breaks between postures.

Iyengar Yoga
Created by BKS Iyengar, Iyengar Yoga is a form of hatha yoga known for its use of props and emphasizing three major components: precision, energy, and subtlety.  This class is for all levels, modifying for beginners...intensifying for intermediates.

Jivamukti Yoga
Jivamukti Yoga emphasizes vigorous asana as its primary technique, including practices such as meditation, devotional chanting and study of the ancient text.

Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini Yoga is referred to as the Yoga of Awareness.  In this class we will use a combination of asanas, movement, mudras, meditation and pranayama (breathing practices) to clear our energy channels and to align with our most authentic self.  We will explore  our energetic & yogic anatomy to experience the luminous body.

Maya Yoga
Maya Yoga brings awareness to alignment in postures in order to realize the self and bring emotions into balance.  The style pulls from Ashtanga and Iyengar traditions of yoga for a rigorous and rewarding practice.

Modern Hatha Yoga
Modern Hatha Yoga is an inspired, life-affirming fusion of yoga traditions from different lineages for today’s practitioners. Classes offer a rich, creative, physically challenging experience that incorporate attention to form, individual modifications, a focus on the breath, and yoga philosophy. The practice encourages a full being spiritually uplifting experience.

Pre-Natal
Prenatal yoga classes offer an excellent space for expecting moms to come together to share their experiences of pregnancy, their yoga practice, and to make lasting friendships. The class incorporates relaxation exercises, breath-work, birth positions, remedies for common discomforts, key pregnancy exercises like squats and kegels, positions to encourage optimal fetal positioning, and much more for mothers and their babies.

Restorative Yoga
Restorative yoga is a passive practice characterized by deep, long-held postures.  The class incorporates practices that promote stress reduction, deep relaxation, immune system support, and improved sleep patterns.

ParaYoga®
ParaYoga® is one of the most in-depth and transformational schools of Yoga in the country, blending elements of Tantra, Classical Yoga and Ayurveda to create a powerful tool for living to one’s fullest potential. ParaYoga® classes are rooted in the Krishna-macharya model and include mindfulness, pranayama, and meditation sequenced specifically to enhance balance, steadiness, and vitality in life.

Warm Vinyasa Flow
Begin your day with a warm flowing practice of sun salutations, strength work, standing postures, inversions, floor work and relaxation.  Finish with an extended savasana and the option of a few minutes of meditation before you head out into the world refreshed and ready.

Yin Yoga
Yin yoga is a passive practice that targets fascia (connective tissue).  It is characterized by deep stretches held for at least two minutes.
