Beginning Yoga

The basics and foundations of yoga for those brand new to yoga, and those wishing to refresh "Beginner's Mind." A perfect place to start if you don't know a thing. When you step into your first Level 1 class, you'll feel absolutely at ease!

Hatha

Traditional asana (postures) are held in accurate alignment. Emphasis is placed on core strength, flexibility, balance, concentration and breath control.

Tantric Hatha

Tantric Hatha uses asana (postures) as a technique, along with breath, meditation, visualization, mudras and bandhas (energy locks) to balance the main forces that sustain mind and the body, to transform the physical body and unblock or remove the obstructions to balanced energy flow. The Tantric approach to asana is drawn from the ancient wisdom that suggests that the quality of your energy determines your experience of life.

Soft Flow

Based in the Kripalu yoga tradition. Designed to work mind, body and spirit. Based on themes, classes will focus on a particular posture, yogic philosophy, or “body part.” Classes begin with meditation followed by a series of flowing postures designed to increase heart rate and flow of blood to muscles. We then move to standing and seated postures. Class may include yin yoga, pranayama, or meditative visualization. The focus in this 1-2 level class is learning more about the self as Kripalu focus on self-love and individuality.

Vinyasa Flow

A flowing series of postures, each movement synchronized with the breath. An aerobic, full body workout which builds strength, flexibility, balance and endurance while detoxifying and relaxing the body and mind. This class is designed for students with basic yoga experience and no chronic injuries.

Restorative

A gentle class to reduce physical and emotional effects of stress. Practice supported yoga postures using blankets, blocks and straps that open the body while slowing down the mind. The result is relaxation, greater mental clarity, improved alignment and physical freedom. May be suitable for those with physical limitations. Breath work is included. VERY GENTLE.

Pre-Natal

Kate’s prenatal yoga classes reflect her strong belief that pregnancy is a normal and healthy event in a woman's life. Moving far beyond simple asana’s (yoga poses) we incorporates deep relaxation exercises, breath-work, birth positions, remedies for common discomforts, coaching on proper body mechanics and key pregnancy exercises like squats and kegels, positions to encourage optimal fetal positioning, and much more. Prenatal yoga classes offer an excellent space for like-minded and like-bodied women in Sonoma to come together to share their experiences of pregnancy, their yoga practice, and make lasting friendships.
